At Fay Elementary, we believe education extends far beyond classrooms and textbooks. As a Community School, our mission is to support not only our students, but their families — by offering resources, connection, and care so that every child can thrive.
A recent article in The San Diego Union-Tribune — “These schools don’t just teach kids. They help families build ‘a community where we all work together.’” (May 27, 2025) — highlights how schools across our region are embracing this holistic approach to education.

These schools are described as more than places of learning — they’re “community hubs” where families find support, connection, and belonging. That’s the same spirit we’re building at Fay.
Here’s what that looks like for our school community:
Support for families: We know challenges like housing, food access, transportation, health, and language can affect learning. As a Community School, we connect families to resources and support.
Partnerships that matter: Learning continues beyond the classroom. We work with parents, caregivers, and community partners to build strong, trusting relationships.
A sense of belonging: Fay should feel like a second home — a place where families are welcomed, included, and supported. When families feel connected, students do better.
Growing together: When schools and families collaborate, the whole community becomes stronger and more resilient.
Project- and community-based learning (PBL/CBL): Engaging students in hands-on, real-world projects helps improve learning outcomes, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.
At Fay Elementary, we’re committed to this work — blending education, care, and community so every child has what they need to succeed.
